A helicopter service runs between Katra and the helipad at Sanjichhat, a plateau about 2.5 km short of the Bhawan. It is popular with senior citizens, people with limited mobility and those short of time.
How it works
- Book online on the Shrine Board's official portal for your date. Seats are limited and sell out quickly at peak times.
- Register for the Yatra (RFID card) as required by the Shrine Board.
- Report at the Katra helipad at your slot time with your booking and ID.
- Fly to Sanjichhat, a short flight over the Trikuta hills.
- Walk or ride about 2.5 km from Sanjichhat to the Bhawan. This stretch is level or gently sloping and covered by shelters for much of the way.
- Return from Sanjichhat to Katra on your booked return flight, or on foot or by pony.

- Weather: flights operate only in suitable weather and can be delayed or cancelled. Keep a buffer in your plans.
- Baggage and weight limits apply. Check the conditions on the booking portal.
- Fares and timings are set by the Shrine Board and its operators and change from time to time. We don't publish fares here, to avoid giving out outdated information.
- In recent years the Shrine Board has also offered helicopter options from Jammu. Check the official portal for current routes and packages.

How do I book the helicopter safely?
Only through the Shrine Board's official online portal. Fake websites and social media pages selling helicopter tickets are a recurring scam. Never pay an agent who promises tickets.
Who can use the battery car?
The Shrine Board provides battery cars on the alternate track between Adhkuwari and the Bhawan for infirm, sick and differently-abled devotees, subject to availability. Book on the official portal.
Is there a ropeway at Vaishno Devi?
Yes. A passenger ropeway links the Bhawan and Bhairon Temple. Its hours are set by the Shrine Board and it may stop in bad weather.
