Katra is compact, but it is hilly and crowded at peak times.
In town
- Auto-rickshaws and taxis connect the railway station, the bus stands, hotels and the start of the Yatra. Agree the fare before you get in.
- On foot: the main bus stand, the Yatra Registration Counter and many hotels are close together in the town centre.
- Banganga check post is about 1.5 km from the main registration counter. Many pilgrims walk; autos and taxis also go towards the start of the track.
On the mountain
Vehicles cannot use the Yatra track. Your options are:
- On foot on the old track, the alternate track or Tarakote Marg
- Ponies, palkis and pithus from the start of the track, run by registered operators
- Battery car between Adhkuwari and the Bhawan
- Helicopter between Katra and Sanjichhat
- Ropeway between the Bhawan and Bhairon Temple
